Free Printable Bible Verse Cards and How to Use Them

The short answer

Put the reference or a short cue on the front. Put the full verse on the back. Look at the front, say the verse without looking, then turn the card over and check every word.

Make three useful cards

  • Reference card: See the reference and say the verse.
  • Reverse card: See a short verse cue and name the reference.
  • Hard-part card: See the line before a hard part and finish it.

How to review a card

  1. Read the cue.
  2. Say the answer with no help.
  3. Turn the card over.
  4. Fix missed words.
  5. Try the full answer once more.

Show hard cards more often

Keep hard cards near the front. Let strong cards wait longer before you see them again. Do not stop reviewing a card just because you got it right once.

Paper or app?

Both can work. Paper is simple. An app can plan later reviews. The tool matters less than the act: hide the answer, recall it, check it, and come back later.

How we make these guides

Remy makes Scripture-memory tools. We use complete World English Bible text and check these quotations against our bundled source. Meaning notes and practice tips are separate from the Bible text. Read the surrounding passage in your Bible, too.

Our exercises use recall and spaced review. A good practice today is a start; trying again on a later day shows what stayed. The sources below explain the method. Found a mistake? Tell us what needs fixing.

Common questions

What goes on the front of a Bible verse flashcard?

Use the reference, a topic, or a short cue. Do not put the full answer on the front.

How often should I review Bible verse cards?

Review hard cards soon. Let strong cards wait longer. Bring every card back after time has passed.

Are digital flashcards better than paper?

Not always. Use the one you will keep using. Make sure it asks you to recall the words before showing them.
